McFly give GMTV a rock ‘n’ roll send-off as show bows out after 17 years

The hosts of GMTV bid viewers their final goodbye this morning as the ITV breakfast show signed off for the final time after 17 years.

The cast were serenaded by McFly, with Andrew Castle even lifting band member Dougie Poynter onto his shoulders for a true rock ‘n roll style sendoff.

Earlier in the show it was business as usual as Crosby and Castle interviewed boy band McFly, who performed their new single Party Girl.

They spoke about the two years it took to make this new album, and promised fans a ‘new sound’.

The boys showed off their new body art, lifting their T-shirt sleeves to display their newly inked limbs. Dougie Poynter hinted at a less-than-squeaky clean image when he joked ‘I can’t tell you what I was doing when I decided to get that tattoo.’

When asked if the song Party Girl is about Dougie’s girlfriend, The Saturdays singer Frankie Sandford, he retorted ‘You’ll lever know… I’ll never tell.’

He might be in for some harsh words from his girlfriend though, after having trouble recalling how long they had been together. ‘About two years, I think,’ he said.

Hosts Andrew and Emma Crosby gave the 22-year-old a hard time, saying Frankie had previously revealed on the show that she was waiting for an engagement ring.

‘So, when are you going to get that knee dirty?’ they asked a blushing Poynter. McFly remained at the studio to join in on the farewell from the sofa.
